Well, as a free software project, there will be more than one manual. A good place to start is O'Reilly's Open Books project[1]. You might find the Network Administrator's Guide useful, although it may be slightly detailed.


You mileage will vary as far as applications go though. Lots of the material is likely to be out-of-date. However, many Unix utilities have been in use for decades so there is bound to be useful info there.


Also, may I recommend that you be resourceful when it comes to your usage of the web. There are many places that provide answers to these questions already[2].
