Puppy runs on 256Meg RAM - even had it going on a Pentium I, it doesn't feel like a compromise in terms of apps or asthetics either. Throw more hardware and it beomes a rocket ship. Less truely it IS more in Puppy's case. If you install it as a full HD install boot is ~30 seconds straight to X. It amazes me but I have not tried mint or watt. The arguments about running a desktop as root are fun but pointless, especially when adding to the typing with sudo before commands is effectively the same in ubuntu. With a server then yes puppy is a bad choice.
