>>It's not DHCP I don't want to do forever. It's typing 'rsync me at 314.159.265.358:\usr\me\somedir\some/ file/ I / want .' every time I want a file that I don't particularly enjoy.

A quick and easy that I use for my all Ubuntu household is to download
ssh server for every machine. Start a new tab in nautilus type ctrl L
and type in me at name_in_hosts_file and press enter and when nautilus
makes contact I bookmark the site. Afterwards I can log in to the
machine I request with a click and a password and use the graphical
interface to move, copy and look at files.
This relies on the machines having a static address and a name on
/etc/hosts or you can use the ip address directly.
