Glen,
my advice would be to stick with it. You have already overcome two of
the biggest hurdles to adapting to Ubuntu - networking and proprietary
codecs. All else is good.
If you stick with open source now you will have free powerful and up
to date OSs for the rest of your life.

But don't download the OS on dialup. The group can help you to get one
on cd or dvd or you could wait another two months for the longterm
release which could set you up for years. Just ask.

On the other hand perhaps you prefer Vista........
