I was only suggesting Facebook as another method of communication. I 
myself prefer
regular meeting times, and a mailing list and/or IRC. That said, there 
are some
people that have requested a Meetup and/or a Facebook type style of 
events. I myself
don't like Meetup, as it doesn't organise it that well IMHO, and 
suggested Facebook
as an alternative to that. Any suggestions for what I can use for a 
modern event based
system are welcome.

That said, if there is a mailing list, why can't you just ignore the 
fact that there
is also mention of it on Facebook? You don't need to use Facebook if 
you don't want ;)
And I would hate for the group not to get started up again just because 
a few people
don't like the idea of using Facebook (or similar) *as well as* a 
mailing list.
