Yep, totally agree, but you can use the RAM in your next machine.

I've spent too many hours of fruitless diagnostic tests on a machine 
which was fixed by a seemingly unrelated hardware upgrade (MB, CPU, 
whatever) to place much faith in hardware diagnostic tests.

I totally agree with you, but the only *definitive* test is to replace 
the suspect hardware.
