Sorry, Chris, 

I'm discussing some of the same libraries & tools that they use, but I'm not really covering OpenSeaMap.

It is cool from a global perspective, fun on your desktop but limited on your own boat.

From the marine perspective, I was going to mention OpenCPN : http://opencpn.org/ocpn/


But the only real demo (remember only 30 mins for presentation/discussion/demo :-) is QGIS...

Sounds really cool! Is the marine stuff linked somehow to openseamap and 
AIS?
