<font face="Arial">Thanks Daniel.<br>

The problem is I don't know if i do or don't want the packages it wants
it remove. I don't know enough yet to know if they are integral
essential packages or not. With the hidden problem, I have enabled
root login to xserver kde desktop for administrative tasks. is there
any way to enable the display of all system folders for root but hide
them for all other users?<br>
<br>
Another problem last night - when going into the "users" setup from
system setup, it won't do it - "module missing, please check and
install" - any suggestions? - i already tried apt-get install kde and
apt-get install kubuntu-desktop with no luck.<br>
<br>
I am on the verge of hosing the whole system down and doing a new fresh
install from CD. This is so frustrating, no wonder there has been such
a slow migration to Linux.<br>

<pre wrap="">I don't know what it is with the python packages Ian. The adept
auto-updater thingy says I've got about 15 (mainly python related)
packages ready to upgrade but when i click to upgrade, it wants to
remove other packages and I don't know how to tell which ones to keep
and which ones to let it remove.

Simple: if you don't care about any of the packages it wants to remove
accept the default offering.

answers to your python dilemma. The new install also won't let me
view easily in Konqueror the folders in root either. I have to
physically type /etc or whatever into the address bar. With any other
mouse clicking way I find it all hidden - any ideas on that?

This is a feature; edit the files /etc/kubuntu-default-settings/hidden-*
to alter the list of hidden files, or simple remove the '.hidden'
symlink from / and /media to disable it entirely.
As an aside this is a feature that GNOME has apparently both supported
and used, and I do think that it is a reasonable setting to assist new
users.
It might have been better advertised in the release notes, I guess, but
I doubt many people would have bothered to read that far anyway.
Er, no comment on the folks in this discussion intended; back when I
wrote software for a living we knew that almost no one ever read the
release notes -- and I still don't. ;)
Regards,
Daniel
