now pvscan returns LVM module not loaded, but I have been running an old ubuntu live CD to access a complete set of commands<BR>

<FONT COLOR="#000000">Well if you got an error from mdadm I would think it was raid related. How about doing an fdisk on /dev/hda or /dev/sda or whatever you have in your box, and printing the partition table- just check to see if there are any partitions formatted like this:</FONT><BR>
