I have inherited a Pressario, about 4 years old,
that I have just finished purging of the Demon Windows and installed Xubuntu
upon as my first tentative steps toward the Light. Dead simple, lots of
interesting things to play with, but I can't get the installed modem to do
anything. Under 'System' there is a 'Network' option which takes me to
'Connections'. Chose the modem connection, set the dial-up to Clear's number,
added account details as required, and ticked /dev/modem as the port under ppp0
properties. Nothing. Have had a poke around but haven't found any other
(obvious) controls. What am I missing? Next time I get a moment I will run Puppy
off the memory stick and see if it finds the modem. I know it found the modem in
the Dell that I use as my XP box in moments. Ideas please.
