Anyone have one or more external modems lying about the place gathering dust?<br>I sell Ubuntu computers to people without much money and the supply of cheap external modems on Trademe is drying up.<br><br>Also I have just read that if I install a recent internal modem (they're cheap and available) and use Ubuntu's restricted drivers manager I have a good chance of getting one working. The idea of buying a $30 modem in Dick Smith's and actually have it work and not have to search the planet for yet another external modem is very appealing.<br>
<br>As an aside I have only made two types of external modem work. Fortunately the very common US Robotics sportster is one of them. On the occasion I bought a $90 brand new one it showed no sign of responding and neither do the 'cute' modems of indeterminate origin that can be bought cheaply. Am I missing something? I do know that they are all tty's.<br>
<br>Anyway second hand compatible external modems - or internal for that matter - at modest price would be gratefully received.<br><br>Cheers<br>
