<div dir="ltr">VLC certainly seems to work more reliably, but I guess it's up to each user to decide if they want proprietary format support bundled with the player... having totem as the default allows each user the choice. Personally I use VLC, as I have plenty of media that I've received from various sources in various non-free formats and I also still use multiple OS's, so I like being able to use the same player easily cross-platform.<br>

totem is the default media player in ubuntu, it fails. VLC works way

<pre>Sure have, I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 and the totem plugin works fine. You
might want to try using vlc directly, though; see

<pre>'... totem plugin works fine.' Not on my machine! Either used directly
or as a plugin I find it to be next to useless! It will load but not
play, play but stop, play only the video, play only the audio, and just
generally misbehave. It might play something and then not play anything
else unless you shut it down and restart it. I've been looking for
alternatives for ages.
Is it just me?
Cheers,
Cliff
