Hey Rimu,
Buying another card is not really an option right now. This little event occurred on my "Windows" machine. (boots XP and Ubuntu) I was really trying to drop Windows completely. I have a dedicated Ubuntu box acting as my server. It has an Nvidia card and works perfectly.
That really sucks about the ATI drivers. I was hoping to install Ubuntu on my laptop but it has a mobile ATI card. I guess I can give it a go in a duel boot type situation as well.
Thanks again,
Ray

Hey,
Thanks for the advice. I booted in recovery mode and chose "Try to
repair X server" and it fixed the problem. Now the only question is how
can I utilize my ATI graphics card's 3D features?
Thanks for the help!
That's an Xorg feature I believe. It chooses sane defaults when you
leave stuff out of the config file, but I'm not sure that you can go
without an xorg.conf completely. Worth a try of course. Worst that'll
happen is you get a shell.
