Goodness me. I only joined the mailing list a week or so ago to see what is happening in the community. Imagine my surprise that there isn't even agreement over how to talk.

I also follow a few linux related subs on reddit and it becomes clear very quickly that a large portion of our community has no real desire to see the uptake of linux by the greater masses. God forbid that we make it to easy for people to use or find out about. Reality is that the large majority of people who use a computer use facebook. Mailing lists are a PITA, IRC? great for geeks. As a professional who spends his days fixing computers, installing Ubuntu where appropriate it needs to be about easy.

Eww seriously if FB is used as the primary, secondary or even tertiary
communication method you can count me out.
Similarly, if Facebook is involved I am not interested.
Mailman mailing lists are ideal for this job, and it looks like you've
already got one? :)
I was only suggesting Facebook as another method of communication. I myself prefer
regular meeting times, and a mailing list and/or IRC. That said, there are some
people that have requested a Meetup and/or a Facebook type style of events. I myself
don't like Meetup, as it doesn't organise it that well IMHO, and suggested Facebook
as an alternative to that. Any suggestions for what I can use for a modern event based
system are welcome.

That said, if there is a mailing list, why can't you just ignore the fact that there
is also mention of it on Facebook? You don't need to use Facebook if you don't want ;)
And I would hate for the group not to get started up again just because a few people
don't like the idea of using Facebook (or similar) *as well as* a mailing list.

Cheers,
