Funnily enough in intelligence circles their definition of 'Open Source'
is quite different.

That in-fact means intelligence gained through data which is found
in-the-open.  Just like our public mailing lists, IRC chatrooms and such
like.

So in the context of the LUG you should consider everything we post
here, and on the web, as open slather to anyone who wants it, including
intelligence organisations.

I was slow to join Facebook, and cautious around its alleged ties to CIA
and so on, but frankly, it's up to you how much (or little) you choose
to place into a 'cloud' service. I know plenty of folks who put next to
nothing onto Facebook, and I don't begrudge them at all.

Mark.

Thanks for trying Hugh; I suggest

 1. you do it,
 2. set your rules & those who don't like them can just not registered
and keep moaning. They will be free to do so.

If you wait for everybody to agree nothing will ever happen.
Cheers

How complex does this need to be.
I'm sure current members can be informed of events via an email.
However if you want to network with other groups and spread the word then
meetup is ideal.
The local rails guys use a google group
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en&fromgroups#!forum/WellRailed">https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en&fromgroups#!forum/WellRailed</a>
which also seems to work well.

Maybe pick a few channels, and hopefully find a tool that send to all of
them so that you don't have to update each one individually.
