Hi all

I am facing something new (to me)

I got an Epson scanner flatbed etc ..; supported by xsane 32 bits
libs + firmware from the windows install disc (esfw52.bin)
I got it to work flawlessly on a Debian stable machine.

I moved it to an Opensuse 13.1, for various reasons, got it to work
too.

However I am facing 2 problems :

Starting xsane as user sends me back insufficient rights ..
despite adding user as a member of the scanner group.

Ok let's run it as root in the meantime : all work but only
for a bit. if I leave it inactive for too long, that's it ! the
scanner seems to have disappeared as if there was a time out or
something.

Coincidentally I do have the same issue with my wireless keyboard,
if I leave it for a bit it takes a bit of time for, let's say, write
something in a terminal.

So ... my questions are :

Why as added to the scanner group I can't get the rights to
use the scanner ?

How is the usb managed with 3.11.10-7-desktop ? or is it a
UEFI thing that gets in my way ?

As I mentioned before works like a treat under Debian Stable. But
that is beside the point, I want to understand what is happening

Many thanks
E
