A question to sort out first-
Given privacy issues, do we want to get names or contact details, email
addresses? If we do, how do we keep them secure?
Is a count of "registrations" good enough or not? If we want to give priority
to those who have registered we need to be able to ID them....
My suggestion:
have them tick what they are interested in, with a field for an email address,
first name, or similar (can be left blank), then give them a reg number. If you
check for duplicates, individuals should only get one number. Tell them to
bring the number to ensure they get priority over others. We can check then
that they know the name for that number to confirm on the day. Also get an idea
as to reg vs non reg who turn up & the number of reg that don't turn up. All
handy to have for future events.
the web site displays a page showing running total of numbers ticked for each
presentation & install.
the list of numbers & names with their ticked activities is available only on a
separate restricted access page.
In addition to this, if we are not providing detail on content in the brochure,
can we up the descriptive content on the web site?...
Ask for which distro they want installed? A couple of links to sites describing
the distros, distro home page, or paste some distro reviews/comments directly
into our page?
eg: http://www.distrowatch.org/dwres.php?resource=major
(has our 3 as the first three in their list)
Also, can those doing a presentation or demo prepare a brief description for it
to go on a page providing some details? Prospective attendees could read these
before registering.
