Forgive me if I have missed a discussion on this point
already, but is there a reason why we can't do this in
Impress (openoffice.org)?

I don't want to create more work, but if somebody
gives me the ppt on a CD, I will try opening it in
Impress and see how good the conversion is (please do
not e-mail it to this account; it will choke on
something that big.) Hopefully, only minor tweaks will
be needed.

I don't know what problems that would pose for the
Live CD, but if it's a Linux live CD, then I guess we
won't be running Powerpoint anyway?
