I was under the impression that the Transmeta CPUs were intentionally
low speed / low heat / low power - ideal for a laptop.
If I was buying a new laptop, I'd gladly sacrifice a third or half of
the CPU speed for an extra hour of battery life - I wouldn't be buying a
portable to rival the speed of my desktop PC.
That's just my preference, anyway.

By the way -- that Transmeta laptop is just so damn SLOW. OpenOffice
boots considerably faster on my four-year-old P700 at home.
