The Dymocks one AFAIK was a different prob, in that the monitor was being
shutdown after 30 min's no kb/mouse activity. The ppt was still running, but it
was hard to see with the monitor off :-)
The DSE problem I that saw is that the ppt is either not being started or
someone is exiting it after it has been started. The screen was up OK with the
knoppix basic screen. No screensaver/power shutdown problems. Given that anyone
can wander along & press keys, it may well be public fingers.
I got the feeling that someone from DSE runs along the PC's & turns them on,
not much more, & the store mgrs were not really tasking anyone with starting
the PPT of ensuring it is running every hour or so. We are not really in a
position to make demands....
It would be nice if things were a bit more professional, but we do at least
have a Linux PC & the 'fest flyers there, even if not the ppt.
If anyone passing a DSE could just pop in & check it is running & fire it up if
not, may be as good as we get at this stage.
The original goal had DSE building a LiveCD to just turn on & auto run the ppt.
Installing Linux on each & firing up the ppt manually was just the fallback
when the custom LiveCD didn't happen.
Note that there were 50-100 flyers per shop, but only supposed to be 5-10
available by the Linux laptops at any one time, the rest were to be behind the
counter. Before anyone says there are only a few left, please check that they
are keeping the ones on show topped up & ask how many are left behind the
counter.
