You didn't wait long before going live with that poll.

The poll needs to be restarted with a list of inclusive options, I don't 
know who arbitrarily decided on the options currently presented.

The first option must be something to the effect "I don't want to spend the 
money immediately, hold onto it until we have a real need for it."

In fact I think you need to have a poll firstly on that question - do the 
majority of members want spend the money immediately if the answer is yes, 
then how ....

Then if it's decided that we do want to spend the money, offer a list of 
options including all serious suggestions (why not?).

But I'd suggest that the "have a meal at a restaurant option" be just one 
option, then if that's the decision you decide upon what type of restaurant 
etc.

Ok, sounds long and slow but there is a short cut:

Three parallel polls:
1) Do you want to spend the money now yes/no

2) If the LUG decides to spend the money now, which of these options do you 
want:
a) t-shirts
b) donate
c) xmas party
d) restaurant
e) ... etc etc

3) If the LUG decides to go to a restaurant which type of restaurant do you 
prefer:
i) Mexican
ii) Irish
iii) Portugese
iv) .... etc etc

And people can vote on all three polls at once regardless of their answer 
to the other polls. So that you can then vote not to spend the money, but 
if the LUG decides to do it, then I want to donate it to the Japanese save 
the whales society, but if the LUG decides to go to a restaurant then I 
want to go to a Vegetarian Steak House.

Not really too difficult.
