A few topics in the one msg, I figure to make it easy for those who delete my
posts without reading :-)
I think we are all getting hung up on the incorporation issue. As I see it,
while there is a variety of opinion on whether incorporation (in a lug/legal
sense) is a good thing or not, even those who are quite happy about the idea,
don't see it as a need right now.
Unless someone says we need to incorporate NOW, which I haven't heard said, why
all the discussion? If the situation changes, as it is bound to, it may be
relevant to bring it up again.
Back to a situation we do have to deal with, some $400 odd burning a hole in
Jamie's pocket (BTW, I hope the LUG is getting interest on this :-)
We did ask for suggestions to be put forward on what to with this. We also need
to discuss & decide/vote.
Also, do we need to define membership? then if so, how do we do it?
The list of ideas I've heard suggested for spending the $$ (& still remember)
are:
keep it until something the LUG sees a need to use it for turns up
(in which case, informally with Jamie or open a bank a/c)
(a subset of the above?) Linux Clinuxes, or other local project we sponsor
financially
identify other Open Source projects we could then vote to donate $$ to
contribute to a social/meal for LUGgites
incorporation
pay for the wellylug domain
pay for the wellylug name
(the last two may need to still be held by someone on behalf of the LUG if we
don't incorporate)
The ways to determine membership/voting rights:
none (as now)
wellylug list membership
wellylug website member
The other issue on the agenda (of course a cabal needs an agenda, with practice
we might even aspire to a hidden one some day, when we take over the world- or
has something gone to my head?? :-) is how to vote.
As this depends on membership/votability, and the current system seems to work
OK, I suggest we put this one on the back burner until someone sees it as an
issue. (My apologies if anyone does have concerns about the current system and
believes we need to address this, please correct me on this)
