Indeed.  Announcement good.  Advertising bad.

I don't have a problem with someone announcing it on the main list (if
y'all can agree that this is something that should be done); I'd be a
lot less happy about daily/weekly/whatever posts suggesting that LUG
members should use the facility (particularly if they are written in
marketing speak).  Including it in some sort of monthly FAQ/announcement
would also be fine providing it's not the main purpose of the
announcement (I still have the wording of a monthly announcement sitting
in my inbox awaiting automatic posting -- maybe I'll get to it before
September).
