A few bits of info & questions....
Ewen has set up two new lists for us. Before I announce them to the WLUG, I
figure we should update the web site, etc, first, so the help & info & link to
http://lists.naos.co.nz/mailman/listinfo/wlug_org
is there.
I was kindly set up as the administrator of the new lists. If you are happy
with me being active in this role every month or two, given that I do work at
sea for a fair bit of the time, I'll keep it on. If anyone else is interested,
they're welcome :-)
Firstly there is wlug_org. I have taken the liberty of subscribing you.
This message should be arriving via that list. Feel free to change your
settings, but I think it would be pretty poor form if you unsubscribed!
I know stuff all about setting up web sites, etc, so can someone please offer
to ensure the wlug site is updated appropriately regarding this??
The second new list is free_topodata.
This is for the project to create a freely distributable version, in a useable
& useful format, of the LINZ vector topo dataset, possibly along with a live CD
to demo the data under Linux.
It has been discussed a bit on wlug, & I'd like to know how best to get a page
set up for this under the WLUG page, as well as a link to subscribing to the
list. Feel free to subscribe if you are interested, (but note that I'll assume
this interest means you will be happy to have some involvement)
(I'll subscribe those I think I need to be involved :-)
I don't wanna make any noise about this right now, as there are a few
preliminary discussions going on with interested sponsors, but in a few days,
if we can get the web page set up, I'll let people know this is going ahead.
I have had a brief chat with Liam at Silicon who is happy for them to be
involved in another installfest. They can certainly provide the venue again, &
I have asked Liam to suggest a date that should suit them in 2-3 months.
So, should we ask Ewen to set up a wlug_installfest2004 list as well, or just
use this one??
Once we get a date, we'll need to kick off a search for other sponsors, as well
as organising wlug people who will attend, so we can say what we can offer on
the day. After the last one, my feeling is that a demo of Office, internet
browsing & games under Linux will be as much of interest to the attendees as
actual installs. I think more came to see what it was about than to actually
get Linux installed on their PC.
'nuff for now...
