My thoughts on this, comments please...

The organisers last time hadn't planned on anywhere near as many "show off"
boxes for the installfest. We thought the monthly meetings were more suitable
for this.

The target audience are NOT those who want to discuss php, the niceties of
Evolution or how great the latest 2.6 kernel I've compiled is. Any demo's for
the installfest should be targeted at core functionality for non-Linux, even
non-computer users. (I know last time I wandered off into showing off mapping
stuff... it happens when we are enthusiastic & someone is interested :-)

For an installfest, fileservers/CD burners with download capability for the odd
driver or package we don't have a copy of are needed. Demo's need to be managed
separately.

If we demo, it should be oriented to subject areas for such an audience:

  turning on & starting up
Internet access (modem/broadband setup, browser & email, maybe chat)
Office (Open & use MS Word docs, Excel spreadsheets, powerpoint
presentations)
Virus issues (or the relative lack thereof)

This could be done in the meeting/presentation room, separate from the
installs.

If people want help with more advanced stuff, installing apache, mail servers,
mapserver, editing config files or whatever, I'm not sure this is the
appropriate venue. If we do offer such a service, then it needs to be set up &
run in a separate space.

If we try to be all things to all people we'll fail. We need to identify the
goals & restrict our activities to most effectively meeting them.

Your thoughts/comments????

   Brent

If we do plan to provide more advanced/specialised demo's, then extra space can
be arranged, but if ANYONE plans to turn up & bring a PC to demo anything,
please let us know well in advance!!!!!
