Hi y'all....

Given the apparent interest in education/demonstration rather than installs
shown by attendees & LUG helpers last time, as well as some discussions this
time:

Rather than unstructured demos cluttering up the place for the _install_fest,
(& given that demos & examples ARE an important part of the whole thing), is it
worth using the presentation room at Silicon for scheduled demos on specific
topics? Try to keep to 15-20 minute sessions every 1/2 hr to leave room for
discussions, off the cuff extras....

Some topics could be:

Linux/Open Source (brief overview, distros, intro to installing,
available resources, business models - the latter as a very

common query is "who the hell pays for it? It can't be
free!- & if it is, it must be worth what you pay for it!)

LiveCDs (boot a couple to show what they are & can do,
Knoppix, GIS-Knoppix & PClinuxOS might be suitable)

OpenOffice (open Word Docs, Excel spreadsheet & Powerpoint & show an install
on Windows, maybe a look at others like SOT Office)

Internet access (demo of Winmodem setup, demo Konqueror, Mozilla, Netscape &
email clients, security & virus issues)

Demo a full install (eg: Mandrake 9.2 on a box with a Windows installation, TV

card, etc & watch TV afterwards- maybe > 1/2 hr :-)

Any others????

The brochure/handout describing the installfest could list these with a
timetable?

Kept interactive, pretty basic, pretty general.

So: good idea? waste of time? too hard? suggestions? other ideas?

Cheers

   Brent
