Stuff to ponder b4 the bar meeting....
Had a chat with Chris Day at Dick Smith. He is responsible for much of the DSE
push into Linux & Open Source recently. IMHO, DSE's interest in Linux is
something we can capitalise on, and hopefully provide support for.
DSE is just getting some Linux/OpenSource CD's cut, & should have them
available for sale in their shops in a couple of weeks.
Chris says he is happy for us to have some to give away. We may need to see the
contents to avoid too much duplication with WLUG disks???
He is also happy to organise the Wgtn area shops to give away advertising for
WLUG & the installfest. He is keen on the idea of the presentations, as that is
the sort of info DSE is getting feedback about customers wanting. The issue is
that the venue can really only support 30-35 people for presentations. Maybe
registrations required??? If numbers go up, we can offer extra times???
Our concern was primarily that if DSE gets behind it in a big way, we will have
too many people to cope with.
So, have a think about it prior to the discussion, What would we like DSE to do
for us? He is keen to support as we feel appropriate, which could be a great
opportunity. So, a short list which he can say yes/no to.
some possibilities, feel free to add your own
Provide Linux/OS cds to give away (what is on them?)
Pass out the installfest blurb to appropriate customers in the shops
Have installfest blurb freely available in the shops for anyone to pick up
Email to appropriate DSE customers about the event
Provide a 15 min presentation or powerpoint: DSE's role in the NZ Linux
community
