I would try for three minutes tops with time/date/venue details on a
separate hardcopy sheet.

Three minutes coz that's about the longest anyone will wait for the lights
on that corner. Hardcopy sheet next to display coz noone can write venue
details that fast (unless it's on the bottom of every slide).

In addition to the 'What is an Installfest' there should be a slide on
other attractions at the event... who will be speaking on what? i.e. there
is an option just to talk to people about it rather than having things done
there and then.

Focus on standard apps (OO,email,browser,multimedia) with a slide each. The
heavy hitters (database, firewall, mapping, GIMP?) can be popups on a
single slide and/or demonstrated when the punters turn up. Does the
HP/Shrek thing extend to having a short clip run on the multimedia slide?

And of course look and feel (fonts, pointsize, colour, background) should
be the same across the lot... but you all knew that anyway...
