If anyone wants support from LUG members who are disinterested in the running
of Wellylug, I don't think the wlug_org list is the right place to ask :-)
There seem to be plenty of members happy to leave the vocal minority doing the
vocal minority's thing while they get on sharing or whatever. The contention
seems to be where some believe there is only room in WLUG for one type of
Luser.
(Well. That didn't come out right. I can see a new MS slogan now.... Better
copywrite it now, then send them an invoice :-)
But please note that the reason Damon undertook the task of coming up with some
guidelines (to help prevent obnoxious cabal members like me from shouting down
the quiet majority) was becouse the members present at the last meeting agreed
it was a good idea.
There seemed to be a consensus that diatribes & irrelevant/insulting messages
were NOT wanted, and some guidelines to try & keep them off the list was a good
idea.
I suggest anyone who feels the LUG is a place where anyone can say what they
like without regard to the opinions/feelings of others is not in the majority.
I am also quite happy to go along with the majority, who have expressed a
desire to document some guidelines to keep the list a positive and useful
experience. Even if it does constrain my freedom to insult & abuse others on
the list. (I can make up for it at meetings!)
Personally, I congratulate Damon for being prepared to undertake the task and
coming up with the initial words to kick off the debate. It seems to have been
pretty thankless so far :-)
IMHO (which is the only one that counts!) the issue is not should we have any
guidelines, that was clearly agreed on at the last meeting. The issue is what
words should we have?
Given this, can we focus? (or is the exchange giving everyone too much fun??)
1. We agreed some "email etiquette" words would be a good idea.
2. We prodded Damon to come up with the first cut at some words.
3? If you don't like what Damon proposed (which I'm quite comfortable with- I
think the gist is more important than the detail), suggest an alternative
wording for discussion instead.
Maybe some alternative wordings which can be stuck out on the wellylug list &
Jethro sets up a voting page on the WLUG site??
(Sorry Jethro! Learn early about willing horses.)
Spotcha!
