[wlug_org] What is WLUG?

Serious question, a bit in the hindsight/navel gazing area...

Aside from goals/aims/mission statements/memorandums of corporate intent, etc,
as one of the cabal who appear to have turned WLUG into such a den of
improprieties (if not iniquities) that our primary founder no longer wants to
be involved: is this something which we should be concerned about?

I've tried (& prob gone way overboard telling everyone) to ensure the LUG is
somewhere that anyone with a Linux interest can find something of
value/interest in, if not quite a place to call home (even Debian users :-).
That it is now in such a state that someone like Jamie D. washes his hands of
us is IMHO pretty sad.

I don't really know what Jamie's fundamental concerns are, apart from his
stated preference that only some Linux users/activities are catered for. I
believe the aims/guidelines are not restrictive on members or LUG activity, but
provide helpful info for new & existing members to give the LUG some identity &
a framework for running more smoothly.

Implementing a cabal, thus having people in roles like Sam for presentations &
esp Jethro for the web site I think has made WLUG a much more useful resource
for members (so add some applause for you guys & the other team members as
well). I think the Wellington Linux community generally is changing/growing &
WLUG is growing up a bit to meet the needs of & involve this wider variety of
Linux users. IMHO it is humming (a good thing :-) along well.

However, does anyone else have misgivings such as Jamie D's? Is our humming
really in tune? Are we alienating other traditional core members of WLUG, or it
it simply a Jamie D problem? Am I unrealistic in hoping we have room for
everyone?
