[wlug_org] My reasons (of perhaps my lack of reason?)

Thank you Jamie,
I concur with you that the purpose of the group is for getting the
message and use of Linux more widely known, and the ways to make this
happen are through word-of-mouth, meetings, installfests, and
promotional material.

Having said that I also would like to thank the current organising group
(call it what you will) for doing an excellent job of meeting this
purpose. You are doing an excellent service for the rest of us (general
hand-clapping and applause all round)

Let us keep that momentum rolling and we can all continue to enjoy these
activities. Personally I am too short on time to offer much apart from
occasional comment - for which I am disappointed in myself (boos from
the audience)

One thing I would like to see is these mailing lists lighten up a
little. The meetings are a great place of ideas with some humour thrown
in as well. We acknowledge our own shortcomings publicly, as well as
sharing our knowledge. I think we need to do the same in the mailing
lists from time to time as well. A little levity may soften the
references to 'cabal' and 'advocacy' and the like from becoming
something people get heated over.

I would like (and this is purely my idea to you all to discuss the
merits of) people who belong to NZOSS to include in the general news at
the beginning of meetings a short 'news from the advocacy front' type of
talk so that others who wish to support that then can identify with
them, and can take up the advocacy discussions through NZOSS itself.

This adds more structure to the meetings admittedly, but it also deals
with that sensibly and quickly in public so we can move onto the evening
entertainment (oops, sorry - presentations)  {heh}

Please think of the content of this message and shoot that down (or
laugh it up!) - not the messenger.

Regards
Colin K
