[don't take my phrasing 'own version' too literally]

We should come up with some goals that Organisation X may want to
achieve on behalf of WellyLug. Things that Wellylug can't achieve by
itself and not things that NZOSS is already achieving.

It doesn't need to be different. It just needs to represent. Once
everyone has had their say, you find the common ground and work on that.

aye.

If you ignore for a moment what Marks specific objectives are (as
clearly they are meeting headwind from the WLUG crew), and focus on what
Wellyluggers may want, then I think we're probably less inclined to get
push back from Wellington Linux Users. If we try and represent what the
Luggites want then we're doing the right thing.

step back a sec and see whether what is being proposed actually fits.

Let's not get hung up on names and focus on what people want.
But, sure. Nationally co-ordinated events. What would happen if we had a
month or two of installfests rippling up the country? Wow. What would
happen if we were organised enough to hold national linux foo
competitions? what would happen if you could present you geo stuff to a
national stage?

I sense you may be in the same place as me, though would be keen to hear
other views.

I'd amend the proposal to remove the line
"..Aggregate LUG opinion and present a unified voice to the Government
and other industry groups.."
This to me overlaps with nzoss too much.
I'd include the phrase 'WellyLug joins Waikato Lug on this national
group and encourages other regions to do the same'
I'd add a line about needing better communication at a local lug level
from nzoss - has Peter and co ever turned up to give an update?
apologies if I missed it.
I'd put more emphasis on events (coordination) - installfests, some
form of interlug competition, and maybe some form of show/conference
that could either tie in with the Aussies (like Dunedin is doing next
year) or perhaps NZNOG. But certainly encourage national and
inter-region stuff.

Sure, but I'd to be sure we have the support of the locals before we
raced off and did that.
I'd like to present a similar statement from WellyLug - it may well be
very similar - but we would have a clear statement that represents us.
