I expect that there's no confusion, but just in case I will point out that
despite being posted on the Wellington Linux Users Group admin mailing list
(wlug_org), that survey is of course from the Waikato Linux Users Group
(wlug at list.waikato.ac.nz). :-)

 From those last few pages
OS, recommend, use
===============
Ubuntu, 30, 23
Windows, 9, 9
Fedora, 6, 10
Mac, 5, 4
Knoppix, 4, 0
Debian, 2, 17
Slackware, 2, 3
Gentoo, 1, 2
Mandrake, 1, 1
Mepis, 1, 1
SUSE, 1, 2
BSD, 0, 2

The main discrepency is that Debian users seem to recommend new uses start
with Ubuntu, which seems quite understandable ... they can graduate to the
real thing once they've tried the junior version ;-) ;-)

(The statistics can be rather misleading, it would be best if they
correlated the two sets of responses so you could see how many current
Windows users recommend Linux instead - from the above stats you can't tell
whether the 9 Windows users are the same 9 who recommend Windows to new
users (maybe its disguntled Fedorra users that recommend Windows ;-))

If you should happen to want some random statistics about the WellyLug
group have a look at the website access logs:
http://www.wellylug.org.nz/reports/report1.html

Interesting, yes, useful ... ? :
I note that we consistantly get a large proportion of visitors using
Windows and that Monday and Tuesday between 3pm to 4pm is the busiest period.

Tony.
