Those were my thoughts :-)

If people think it's especially important, I could give the domain's
UDAI to someone.  This is effectively (as I understand it) the magic
password that allows it to be transferred to some other registrar.  I
don't know if they expire or anything; someone more familiar with the
SRS may be able to answer that.

Of course, then I'd have to play the select-an-appropriate-person game,
which sounds like effort.
