hi everyone,
last night, I did a presentation/discussion on the organisational state
of wellylug, and what we should do.
My presentation is available for viewing at the link below. Please read
through it if you were not there last night, and then read the rest of
this email.

-----------------------
THE PROBLEMS AND THE PATH TOWARDS FIXES
Wellylug is in trouble. There is no organisation system that is working,
and no definite group/person in control or who can be a representative
of wellylug.
We decided on a 3-month roadmap (shown in the presentation) to fixing
this. Firstly (and what we currently need to do) is to discuss
organisation structure proposals on the org list.
Next month, we hear the best proposals that were created. These could
either be presented by the author, or if they are unable todo so, I am
willing to do so for them. The proposals will then be made available
online for people unable to make the meeting.
The proposals are then discussed and tuned on the mailing list. At the
following meeting we will chose the best ones, and then hold a vote with
the entire lug (virtual and physical) over what organisational system we
will have.
How to hold a vote is a hard problem that we faced - and solved last
night. Wellylug has both people who come physically to meetings, and
those who live on the mailing list/IRC. How do we define who is/isn't a
member? And how can we be fair to all users?
WHO'S A MEMBER?
Last night we decided to define what a member is. A member will be
anyone who has created a username on the website, and then selected the
"make me a member" option. (I will be writing this option into the
website this weekend - I have a busy work project during the week).
Not being a member DOES NOT restrict you in anyway. You may still attend
meetings, be online, etc. The only difference, is that when you are a
member you will have voting rights when a decision needs to be made.
So from next week, if you wish to be classified as a member and have
voting rights, logon to the website and select the option.
If you don't give a sh*t about politics or how the lug is run, there
isn't much point in becoming one. But, if you want a choice in future
votes, please do.
WHAT TO DO CURRENTLY
I would currently like people to submit solutions as to the way they
think wellylug should be run. Please submit and discuss these solutions
on the org list, as some members of this list "hate politics".
My presentation contains a brief list of what we should be looking for
in a organisation group, but I'm up for any ideas of what sort of system
we should have.
Next month, present these solutions, either your self, or ask me to do
so for you. Either way, please send me a brief description about your
proposal and it's title a day or 2 before the meeting, so I know who's
talking.
thank you all,
