[wlug_org] [wellylug] Funding & Organising Meetings: Wellylug.org.nz

Hey Jethro....

Shows how well I fooled ya :-)

My usual concern with such matters is that I'm often out of the country & not always easily contactable. So if something ever needs doing within a week or two I can not guarantee being around to do it...

I'm also not that involved with the Wgtn meetings for the last year or so... partly out of the country a bit wot makes it hard... like next month I'm off to Oman to run a spatial data mgmt workshop using Postgres/PostGIS & other FOSS applications... fun stuff...

Also, given the somewhat anarchistic nature of wellylug, there is no committee, no bank account, etc, so there is no formal role for me to take on anyway.... any $$ are sitting in Jethro's account somewhere & we are relying on his honesty to spend those appropriately.

So frankly, the Wgtn Linux events that I'm aware of over the last few years haven't cost wellylug anything, and while the 'lug name has been involved, so have plenty of others, so I don't really see a need to try to formalise anything more than we already have.

If Jethro moves on, someone else may or may not take on the reins. Without a formal LUG bank account, or at least a joint account that 2 or three people informally manage on behalf of the LUG, which is a bit excessive for our few $$, the funds can disappear at any time - like if Jethro gets hit by the proverbial bus, we won't get whatever cash is there, & if I was in that role the same would apply.

So while I'll continue to be involved as & where I can.... I don't see any point in me or anyone else taking on any formal co-Jethro status :-)

Cheers,

  Brent
