Hi, I'm Alan, and my involvement with Linux to date has been as a keen
learner, but still very much a beginner.
I got interested in Linux about the same time that Jamie did and for much
the same reasons.
My background in computers goes back to my early college days with a
neighbours VIC 20, friends ZX81s & Spectrums, BBCs, the schools TRS80s and
my own Commodore 64. By the 5th form, the school had really advanced
machines (for the time), genuine IBM PCs with 160Kb Floppy Drives, and 64Kb
of RAM and I really got interested with the possiblities then...
My first computer related job was as an operator on IBM 'big metal' working
at Telecom, during school holidays. Then a government job working with NCR
Unix boxes, and PCs running DOS networked together. I have been working
with computers ever since. I now work for EDS, on the Telecom Account, in
the Peformance Process & Improvements Metrics Team.

I am hoping that this group will function along the lines of the 'old
school' computer clubs and user groups... with a friendly environment where
people can share ideas, get answers to all of the questions they have, and
have fun with Linux.

I am looking forward to the first InstallFest, and I will be bringing at
least one box with me to have Linux installed on (as a dual-boot machine -
too many Windows games :) )

That's it for me now.

Alan
