Hi,
This is yet another intro.
For work, I'm a Lotus Notes / Intranet developer.
I first installed Linux in '96. it was a slackware distribution which came
on about 50 floppies. I installed and re-installed about 100 times. After a
lot of fustration I had an installation that worked on my tired old 386
laptop, without X. But it was enough to do my Varsity project.
After that I have been suffering from work constraints, so I've spent most
time since using NT or win 2000 servers. After some campaining, Lotus has
released Lotus Notes server for Linux and Linux has become one heluva lot
easier to install, as a server or desktop OS.
I'm now using Mandrake 7.0 for my home desktop, and planning to change my
servers to Linux asap (need some simms first)
Why Linux? simple I dont want to go where microsoft want me to.
Where do I want to go? I would like to start developing more low overhead
web applications, using relational databases (progresql / mysql),
serverside processors like PHP etc...
Apart from computers I love adventure motorcycling, and that is about it.
See Ya soon
James
