Well, I bought my parallel port modem
for $40:00. It's a compaq modem, model
28.8p 5 year warrenttee that was at
compkarori.co.nz

It is flashable as well.

When I connect to an ISP (in serial mode)
i get 56k connects and 5k downloads.
Not as good when I connect to work, 
only 28.8.

Still a bargin external modem.
