Kia Ora, I'm John and my involvement in Linux to date has been restricted to reading the debate between the Microsoft camp and the open source camp.  

I have worked in IT for the last 15 years ranging from main frames to Unix boxes. I have worked on various Unix boxes for the last 5 years, although I am not that familiar with the Unix kernal as such, more the applications that run on Unix OS.

I hope to get a second hand PC to install and run Linux (RedHat possibly) with Star Office. I would eventually like to run it as a server with a firewall so that any other PC I have hooked up at home has at least some minimal protection

I have been talking to some friends and they are interested in the installfest. I like the concept. can we have a Netfest or a WireUpYourOwnHomeNetFest or something like that?
