[wellylug] cdrom permissions

Hello,
I was wondering if someone could explain the
permissions for devices since I don't understand what
I have read (Rute Manual).
I can't get my cdplayer to work for a user. It's ok
from root.
I get the message is the CDROM device a part of the
cd-rom group?
The permissions are as follows;
/cdrom rwxr-xr-x
/dev/cdrom rwxrwxrwx ->hdb

The system is using Debian 2.4
