[wellylug] Need some help with Debian

Well, I've taken the plunge and tried to install Debian on my PC in
place of Mandrake 8.1 but have run into a major problem in that I
can't get X to run at all.
My video card is a GF2MX and monitor is a 19" Panasonic that will
handle up to 1600x1200 and 75Hz but I cannot get X to work even at
800x600!
I'm using the SVGA server and have run xf86setup and put in all the
details of the monitor but all I get on the screen is garbage (which
needs a reboot to fix) - can anyone possibly offer any assistance?
