Hi Chris, thanks for your reply.

It actually sounds like it but had no evidence so far.
I have a hub (16x D link), lights are on and blink when Pc1 pings Pc2
and reverse.
The Eth card on Pc1 is detected by linuxconf as old-tulip and is
detected as well by ./usernet without giving any IRQ ou I/O. Ping to Pc2
makes usernet to display red bits going out but nothing in.
To make things as clean as possible I finally defined the IRQ and I/O as
given by Kcontrol, rebooted Pc1 and... unable to load the old-tulip module
(??), bad IO (which is not after double check! (?? again)
After a bit of searching I figured out that old-tulip cards are not the
best one to go with for networking. That may be the trouble since it is
recognised as a DEC card by Kcontrol ...
Other wise /etc/hosts/ is Ok, as recommended (by Arnim) I got rid of bind,
but found nothing in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules (another source of my troubles
?)
Getting rid of the hub (Pc1 to Pc2 directly) does not improve anything
(at this stage).
So, next step will be to get a card that is fully supported by linux (any
recommandation ?) and try without the hub. From there I'll probably manage
to make something work (hoppefully :-)
Cheers
Edouard
