Hi Don

I switched two of my home PC's to Gentoo recently (3 or 4 weeks ago)
(one my workstation, one my webserver / mailserver). I gotta say I love
the distro more than any other at the moment.

It did take a few days initially to get the first machine up and running
(compiling everything from source does take time, but the speed increase
makes it worth it).

The ports system is amazing - type 'emerge gnome' on a clean system,
leave it over night and in the morning you will have a brand spanking
clean install of gnome - compiled to your system specifications.

You _will_ encounter problems while getting everything up and running,
but answers are usually found on the gentoo forums
(http://forums.gentoo.org/) where someone else has had the same problem
you are having and has had several replies of help.

Few of the things I love:

System updates - If a new version of somethingorother comes out, it's
usually in the Gentoo Portage within a day or two. To update your
system to the latest available packages, all you type is: emerge
--update world. This will update everything to the latest..

The support via the forum.

The fun of installing Linux from scratch! No nice install GUI - you do
everything yourself (almost) and follow an easy to follow online install
doco. A feeling of acclomplishment is found afterwards - believe me!

I say make the move! If you have any problems - fire them away here and
i'll see if I can help.

See you

Tom
