It sounds like you upgraded your package from cooker, which means that
things will be broken some of the time. That's how it works. The trick
is to find a package that someone has compiled for the version, not
cooker, and use that. That way, any dependencies will be expected to be
stable.
For instance that's how I upgraded to Mozilla 1.0 -- grabbed it off the
server of one of the Mandrake "gurus" and there were few dependencies,
all of which were easily resolved. Had I got it off cooker it would
have been a disaster, esp. since they're now using a different version
of GCC.
