[wellylug] Dumb questions about linux networking

Hi WLUG members,

Last night I spent some hours trying to figure out how to connect to a
Linux-Mandrake 7.1 server in my old workplace in Bangalore. The problem
seems a combination of the following:
        1. I set up pmfirewall on the machine, and I don't think I let
in any incoming traffic from outside the LAN like ssh or
telnet. I was trying to guide them to allow either of these,
but it seems they struggle a bit with the multiple config
files etc. The problem with this also is, one screw up and
they lose the internet connection sharing for their LAN.
        2. They don't have ssh installed, and they've misplaced the
           installer CDs
        3. when I try to telnet in, it times out, even though I can ping
           the machine
So could anyone offer any of the following?:
        1. What would a one line command be to turn off the firewall
functionality until the next reboot? They use ipchains.
That can be done with one line without ruining the
           masquerading right?
        2. Can anyone e-mail me the (I assume) 3 ssh RPMs for Mandrake
           7.1?
        3. What kind of tools should I be using from my linux box to
figure out why I cannot login? They connect via ISDN.

Thanks in advance,
Damon
