When it does it's thing, open up a terminal and enter 'ps -e'.
This will give you a list of what processes are running. You have
probaly got some service running that you don't actually need. I might
be updatedb, which updates the "locate" db periodically, although it is
normally set to go at midnight each night or something like that.
