[wellylug] Hard drive being accessed?

There are some update daemons that run from cron that cause random HD 
scrubbing. There's updatedb and medusa for indexing files, and there's an rpm 
indexer too IIRC. Try top at the command line - this will display cpu times, 
memory usage, etc. (press h for some interactive options, and q quits - I 
remember it took me a while to figure out how to quit things like man and 
top!  :-)
