Sharp NZ told me:

Unfortunately Sharp New Zealand does not currently bring in the SL5500,
it 
is only available in the US, Australia and some Europe areas at the
moment.

You are welcome to purchase the unit over the internet but please bear
in 
mind that the warranty arrangements will have to kept with your
purchasing 
agent and Sharp New Zealand cannot support or cover warranties on
anything 
brought in from overseas.

There are no immediate plans to introduce the unit in New Zealand but we
are still researching the idea.
