Hmm, good points all of you :)

In retrospect, I agree OO would be unwise - Abiword might be the go,
particularly since she's more into learning the Web at this stage.

Given the constraint of 32MB RAM and 1GB HDD, perhaps something really
simple like Phoenix, Abiword, and ICEwm/Blackbox/FLWM might do the
trick.

Maybe Debian, with Synaptic for apt-get access perhaps.

BTW - her system has onboard NIC.
